ABOUT THE PROJECT
INN CROWD is a unique arts project, with the goal of supporting rural pubs to host spoken word-inspired live performances. Our project is mainly based in the South and South East of England, but is now being piloted in selected areas nationwide. We coordinate and collaborate with some of the UK’s top artists and performers to provide pubs in rural areas with professional, high-quality, fantastic live entertainment, which in turn helps landlords to attract new customers, widen the experience for their regular punters, and reinforces the pub as a central, vibrant part of community life.
HOW DO WE DO THIS?
- We search for the best live literature and spoken word-inspired performance and artists across the country, who may have an existing show they’d like to bring to rural pubs, or an idea for a show and would like support in making it INN CROWD-ready.
- We build up relationships with pub landlords who are keen to offer something a little different to their communities. We offer them a choice of our current shows, and work with them to determine which event will suit their venue and their audience by offering them a choice of shows. We offer expert support and advice throughout the whole process, from the initial booking through to the final performance.
- We also provide a brilliant platform for artists to tour their work and gain invaluable insight into rural communities. We can support some companies with rehearsal space and development funding to either help tailor their existing show to be accessible for pub spaces and audiences, or work on a co-production basis to help them create an INN CROWD-suitable show from scratch.

“These performances are exactly what’s needed in the countryside. Bringing performances such as these into village pubs so that people can have a drink, possibly a meal, and then walk home. It also helps to make the pub more profitable.”
